The Southpoint Sun

The Southpoint Sun is Leamington, Wheatley and Kingsville's exclusive source for LOCAL news, sports, opinion columns and many, many features that reflect the business and residential needs of the the community.

The Sun is delivered FREE to households in Leamington, Wheatley, Ruthven and Kingsville. It is also available in many stores in Leamington, Wheatley, Ruthven, Kingsville and Cottam.

The Southpoint Sun is a division of Southpoint Publishing Inc., which was established in 2013 and is locally and independently owned by Jim Heyens and Sheila McBrayne. Our office is located at 194 Talbot St. E. Unit 5 Leamington, Ontario.


Jim Heyens, Publisher:
Jim brings 28 years of media experience originally, working as a magazine editor after graduating from the Journalism-Print program at Humber College. Jim moved on to print advertising where he eventually worked as the national sales manager for a major chain of newspapers. Throughout his career he has helped launch several community newspapers in Southern Ontario. He has held management roles in radio and has worked in the print directory industry. In April of 2009 Jim realized a lifelong dream when he became the proud owner and publisher of his hometown newspaper, The Wheatley Journal. He wrote his first sports article for The Journal at the age of 12. In February 2010, along with co-owner Sheila McBrayne, he launched the Southpoint Sun in Leamington and consolidated all their print assets in 2013 as Southpoint Publishing Inc.   


Sheila McBrayne, Editor:
Sheila started her newspaper career in 1990 in her hometown of Ridgetown where she worked for 19 years as a reporter and editor before moving to Wheatley in 2008. Sheila has served on various local boards including the South Essex Arts Council, Erie Shores Health Foundation, the ESHC Women's Centre Committee and the Leamington Chamber Business Excellence Committee. She and co-owner Jim Heyens began the Leamington Southpoint Sun in 2010 and consolidated all their print assets in 2013 as Southpoint Publishing Inc. She is a graduate of Journalism-Print at Niagara College.  


Melissa Hopper, Office Manager:
Melissa was born and raised in Leamington and is a graduate of the Journalism program at St. Clair College. She has experience in many aspects of communications including marketing, public relations and freelance writing.  


Erin Squance, Advertising Sales:
Erin has worked in advertising sales for the past 10 years. She has more than 10 years of experience in customer service and sales. Erin has a small business background as a mobile personal trainer. Erin has owned and operated Push Motivational Fitness in Kingsville since 2013. Erin enjoys meeting new clients and developing advertising campaigns that will help their businesses grow.  


Bryan Jessop, Reporter:
Bryan began working as a reporter in March of 1998 at The Tilbury Times, following graduation from the Journalism Print program at St. Clair College's Windsor campus. He was also a reporter with The Lakeshore News before returning to the Times as editor. Bryan has also been a reporter with The Wallaceburg News, where he won the Ontario Community Newspaper Association's spot news photography award in 2004. He also served as paginator and copy editor for The Chatham Daily News and The Sarnia Observer.  


Allison Siddall, Distribution Manager/Editorial:
Allison has worked in small business in Leamington and Wheatley since 1976. She started working in the newspaper industry in 2000 at The Wheatley Journal. Along with working in the editorial department, Allison also oversees the delivery of The Southpoint Sun.  



Mallory Wright, Sales Coordinator & Commercial Print:
Mallory was born and raised in Wheatley. She is a graduate of St. Clair College from the Business - Marketing program. She began her career in the newspaper business in 2009 as an Advertising Representative for The Wheatley Journal. Mallory enjoys assisting clients with their advertising campaigns both in the newspaper and though commercial printing!  


Lori Gouin, Production:
Lori has worked in the Leamington area as a graphic designer for over 25 years. Lori enjoys working on the overall design of the Southpoint Sun and Real Estate Review. She has extensive editorial and advertising design experience.  


Mark Ribble, Sales Representative & Advertising Sales:
Mark started in the newspaper business in 1985, first working in graphic design area and also gaining experience in the press room. He eventually moved into the editorial end of things and then into advertising sales, servicing many local clients along the way. Mark was born and raised in Leamington and attended Gore Hill Public School, Mill Street Centennial School and Leamington District Secondary School. He is a hockey, baseball and music fan and enjoys spending time with his grandchildren .  


Tom Warwick, Production:
Tom has worked as a graphic designer for more than 15 years in Essex County. A graduate of the graphic design program at St. Clair College. He has a great passion for art and design whether it is an advertisement, flyer, poster or business card. He enjoys listing to vinyl while playing video games in his spare time .
